20 Tips to Pack Your House for a Stress Free Move in Sydney

Moving to a new house can be exciting and something to look forward to, but packing up your  home can be overwhelming. With proper planning and organisation you can ensure a smooth transition.

To help you with your move, our Sydney removalists and packing service team at Friendly Moving Men have compiled a list of 20 tips for packing your house:

Start Packing Early

Avoid last-minute stress by beginning your packing process well in advance. Begin with items you use less frequently.

Create a Detailed Packing Timeline

Stay organised by developing a specific schedule for each room. Stick to this timeline throughout the packing process.

Gather Essential Packing Supplies

Collect necessary materials like sturdy boxes, packing tape, bubble wrap, packing paper, and markers to make your packing smoother.

Minimize Clutter While Packing

Take the opportunity to declutter your belongings. Donate, sell, or dispose of items you no longer need or use.

Pack Room by Room

Maintain organization by focusing on one room at a time. Clearly label boxes with their contents and the designated room.

Opt for Small Boxes for Heavy Items

Pack heavy items such as books or dishes in smaller boxes to avoid overloading and difficulty in carrying.

Use Larger Boxes for Light Items

Maximize space and reduce the number of boxes needed by using larger boxes for lighter items like bedding, linens, and pillows.

Safeguard Fragile Items

Prevent damage during transit by carefully wrapping delicate items in bubble wrap or packing paper. Add additional padding in the boxes.

Pack Essentials Separately

Create an "essentials" box containing items you'll need immediately upon arrival, such as toiletries, a change of clothes, and important documents.

Take Pre-Disassembly Pictures

Before disassembling electronics or furniture, take photos of their setups. This will assist you in reassembling them correctly in your new home.

Secure Cleaning Supplies

Avoid leaks by packing cleaning supplies in sealable plastic bags. Label the bag for quick access before moving out.

Ensure Container Security

Seal containers with plastic wrap or tape to prevent spills during transit. For liquids, unscrew caps and cover openings with plastic wrap before resealing.

Smart Packing for Electronics

If possible, use the original boxes for electronics. In the absence of those, wrap them in blankets or bubble wrap and label cables for easier reassembly.

Clearly Label Your Boxes

Save time and avoid confusion during the unpacking process by clearly marking each box with its contents and the designated room.

Disassemble Furniture (if possible)

Save space and prevent damage by disassembling furniture whenever possible. Keep the hardware in labeled bags taped to the furniture for easy access.

Use Towels and Linen for Packing

Save space and provide extra protection to fragile items by using towels, linens, or clothing as padding.

Pack Clothes for Easy Unpacking

Keep clothes on hangers and cover them with garbage bags to keep them clean and simplify the unpacking process.

Pack Breakables Vertically

To reduce the risk of breakage, position breakable items, such as plates, vertically in boxes, providing padding in between.

Fill Empty Spaces

Prevent items from shifting during transit by filling any gaps in boxes with packing paper or clothing.

Label "Open First" Boxes

Designate certain boxes as "open first" boxes for your new home. These may contain essential items, kitchen supplies, and bedding.

Remember, moving doesn't have to be stressful. By planning, staying organised, and following these 20 packing tips, you'll be well-prepared for a smooth and successful transition to your new home.
